ISSUE 90/91 RECORDING REVIEW

Sometimes some music comes our way that manage to pique out interest but somehow eludes being placed in the review section due to circumstances we can’t change.  In response, we have kicked off a new feature – More Music To Consider.  While this will feature reviews of sorts (though the way we feature it may change as it continues), we realize that coming across something that may have been a few years old or that might lie outside our normal musical range.  This might stick around for years or may only be in this issue.  Either way please let us know what you think.  Boone.

LKN – “Phratry” CDEP
This came our way a while back and we needed to get to it, but couldn’t until now.  LKN is Lauren K. Newman, a multi instrumentalist form Portland.  Handling all the instruments and vocals, LKN offers up a sampling of driving rock songs ranging from frantic and near shred to more melodic and bittersweet, with an abundance of hooks throughout.  While we normally would place this in our review section, the fact it’s only available in the vinyl reissue of her album, Postulations II, made it apparent to place it in a different section (though one that should place attention on it).  Still, her work is worth checking out.  While I wish this was at least available online as an option for those who already have the CD version of the album (BOONE)
