NEW TONGUES - "We Are The Ones We Have Been Waiting For" LP I've been trying to get through backlog so
I could finally get to review this album, which I've been curious about for a while. On thier debut album local band
New Tongues tear through some muscular avant punk that walks the line between dissonance and the song hook. Built on
taut (sometimes reverb and delay laden) guitar and a to the point rhythm section, these songs are fiery calls to action that
can be abstract and obtuse as much as angry and volatile. Melding part personal commentary with a critique of the larger
picture, these songs tear down the barricades with a sonic punch in the gut that piques the listeners attention. Yes,
New Tongues does hint at some of their influences on their debut. However, the band harnesses them into a blueprint
revealing one of the more powerful underground rock bands to come out of Columbia today. Give this album a listen and
then make up your own mind. (BOONE)
