NEW BLOODS – “The Secret Life” LP
I
picked this up when I saw the band play at Lemp a little while back. On their full-length
debut, New Bloods offer
up minimalist post indie art rock (for lack of a better term) built on a
skeleton of bass and drum grooves with violin ladled over the top and playing
off of the rhythm section. Their songs
are sometimes obtuse, sometimes jagged, yet manage to have a feel and
catchiness that will make a person shake their ass just as much as use their
brains. While their instrumental choices
may be a little shocking to some, their own take and spin on punk and post punk
creates music that can be both laid back and confrontational. The Secret Life
is a catchy album from
a band that I hope to hear more from.
