BELLAFEA – “Cavalcade” LP
I grabbed this
when I saw the band live at Lemp a while back but due to the various stresses
of the way things are now (don’t ask) it took me until now to really check it
out. ON their full-length debut Bellafea
tear through the speakers with a collection of songs that go from ferocious
hard edged indie rock anthems to more experimental moments to a somber ballad,
all delivered with a simmering tension that could explode when you least expect
it. Walking the thin line between melody
and dissonance can be difficult but this band’s walks it with material that’s
personal yet hints at such tings as competition and a possible critique of the
music industry within them. Aurally dark
and a bit edgy, they manage to be both catchy and confrontational as it carves
its own aural space. While things may be
a little unexpected here (especially for those who’ve heard their first EP) the
new direction should be a pleasant surprise for those willing to listen. (BOONE)
