ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI - “That Beep” EP
I’d
come across this song a number of times recently via the video but didn’t realize that I had it downloaded until recently
so I decided to check it out. This is a relatively catchy piece of techno pop with a definite nod to the 80s (with a
slight hint of a Prince influence - but I could be wrong on that). Mostly synthesizer driven with seemingly vocoder
led choruses, this band appears to have some ability to write a decent pop song. Also on this EP are two remixes of
this song from Radio Clit (a French mix and a Swedish mix) that take the song into some different ideas while keeping the
feel as do the remixes by Haima and Kasper Vandergraff My only quibble with this is that it’s more a remix single
than an actual EP (though I’m sure most of the remixes probably aren’t available elsewhere). Having a second
song along with the remixed versions would’ve been a good addition. However, that’s a small complaint and
doesn’t override what’s here. While I’m still kinda on the fence here I think I might need to check
out more from this band. (BOONE)
