DEERHOOF – “Offend Maggie” LP
This
is another record I’ve been meaning to get to for a while but lack of money or something else got in the way; so when
I saw this on vinyl I knew I wanted to get this. Deerhoof’s latest finds them honing their near trademark style
of avant rock into an audio weapon that can be as disarmingly melodic as it is edgy and cutting. Song wise their penchant
for melody is a little more at the forefront than on previous records using a range of electric and acoustic guitars tones
to create music that appears deceptively simple but with arrangements that has even small flourishes shining in the gray area
between noise, indie, punk and pop at their best. Explaining a Deerhoof record with its twists and turns can be a difficult
task to someone who hasn’t heard this band. This is one of the best records to come out within the last year or
so. (BOONE)
