PANSY
DIVISION WITH JELLO BIAFRA – “Average
Man”/”Coming Clean”
There are a lot
of things coming out these days that I find I have to check out so when I
learned of this I knew this had to be reviewed.
The A side of this 7” finds Pansy Division dueting with Jello Biafra on
a song about male attitudes at a late night diner from their latest album. Fueled
by a high-octane riff, this evokes a
blend of early Dead Kennedys with PD’s trademark poppier leanings. The flipside
is a Green Day cover (delivered
fairly faithfully) about someone coming to terms with being gay that’s only
available on this single. There’s also a
bonus track I won’t tell more about so the surprise won’t be ruined. As
an admitted Pansy Division fan pretty much
from the beginning I’d waited for new music from them for a while and they
didn’t disappoint. This totally has me
looking forward to the new CD. (BOONE)
