OBITS - "One Cross Apiece"/"Put It In Writing"
This single was something I came across online a while back and decided
to snag out of curiousity. Obits lay down a tight acerbic style of indie peppered punk rock where simmering melodies
and tension meet through tasty guitar parts and aggressive tempos. "One Cross Apiece" is a snarling song that mines
the gray area between indie and punk with a mid tempo almost R&B style swagger to it. "Put It In Writing" showcases
a slightly more pop leaning feel where the melody meets strummed guitars for a vibe that suggests a mid 60s rock band as much
as modern indie rock. This band has gotten a lot of hype in the last year or two but I have to say its well deserved
hype as Obits may be one of the more intriguing bands to emerge from the minefield of punk/indie and its discontented offspring.
I wish I would've learned about this band sooner but I never claimed to be hip. Get this. (BOONE)
