CLIFTON ROY & FOLKSTRINGER - "Where the Rock Meets the Rail" CD
I first learned of
this band late last year when they played an afternoon show during the Bluebird Music Festival in Columbia at The Cherry Street
Artisan, where I picked up this disc. On their latest Roy and company offer up a mix of bluegrass, blues, and roots
folk music built by a variety of acoustic instruments and an intimate feel that on a couple of moments borders on introspection.
The songs evoke a sense of introspection with some hints of melancholy but also more than a hint of survival through
the journeys within these tales of life’s ups and downs. While the band does respect their roots, they manage
to create something that shows their own identity within a musical genre steeped in tradition. Readers into roots or
real country or who may be curious about such music should check this band out. (BOONE)
