THIN LIZZY - "Still Dangerous: Live at the Tower Theatre, Philadelphia 1977" LP
This is one of those
albums I was curious about when I first heard it was coming out. This disc documents a 1977 live concert from Thin Lizzy
reportedly free of the overdubs and studio cleanup that existed on the 1978 live album Live and Dangerous. What is here
is the band's street level take on hard rock/metal played with a lot of tasty dual guitar harmonies as well as a swaggering
attitude. The set was relatively brief (they were an opening act when this was recorded) but the power of the music
more than makes up for it, even if it seems a little rougher than typical live album standards. After hearing this it's
relatively easy to see how Thin Lizzy was one of the very few 70s hard rock bands who could actually gain respect from the
British punk scene as well as metal kids thus avoiding the old fart label. I know not every reader will get into this
album (there does tend to be a 70s phobia amongst some punks) but it is worth checking out and making your own mind up. (BOONE)
