BOMBS AND BEATING HEARTS - "From Dumpsters Rise" CD I
know
this has been out for a while but since I hadn't heard of this until I saw them
at Cafe Berlin a while back it seemed right to cover this now. On this full-length
Bombs and Beating Hearts
dish up a hearty serving of acoustic punk rock where a low technology approach
(simple percussion, accordion, and acoustic guitar) meshes with a lot of
anger. The songs here have a definite
anti authoritarian bent as they take on cops, the war on terror, missionaries
and the like. Add a couple instrumentals
and the disc becomes an interesting portrait of what can happen when punk rock
steps outside its normal expectations (loud, overdriven guitars, screamed
vocals) to take a path not that often traveled (the best known example was the
original incarnation of Against Me about a decade or so ago). Sadly, since I picked
this disc up I learned
recently that the band has broken up though some new recordings may be on the
way. (BOONE)
