SPOON – “Got Nuffin” EP

Yeah I know these guys have gotten a lot of press in the last couple years but when I learned of this EP I had to at least give it a listen.  On their latest, Spoon offer up a piece of tight artsy indie rock that has some experimental turns.  The title track is a tense melodic rocker that simmers at a mid-tempo vibe that helps underscore the song’s intentions.  “Tweakers” is an experimental dub like track that almost seems to be looped and tweaked into something that comes out of left field.  “Stroke Their Brain” is a driving rocker with a pop melody that seems more in keeping with what people know of Spoon these days.  While those who only know their big “hit” a couple years back may be surprised by this EP the shock may actually be to the band’s benefit as it shows some sides of them you might not always hear on the radio.  Listen to it and make up your own mind.  (BOONE)
