THE GOLDBUGS – “Centro
Cellar Sessions” CD
In
early 2009 local band the Goldbugs
released two CDs pretty much simultaneously.
Having review Star in the Corner in a previous issue, I finally got
around to the more recently recorded of the two discs. As usual, the trio peels
off a batch of melodic guitar driven rock that can go from catchy power pop to
near stone country. Hooks all over the
place and tons of lead guitar makes these tales of love, loss, change and the
like come off amidst the tightrope between Americana roots
and pure pop in a manner that
seems natural. Centro Cellar Sessions
(named after the studio the album was recorded at) is a little more on the
roots and country side than its predecessor but it still maintains the spark
this band had always had. (BOONE)
