KNIFE THE SYMPHONY – “Crawler”
CD
I know this has been out for a while and I should’ve
gotten to this sooner but stress and inertia have a way of not keeping up on
the backlog so we got to it now. The
possibly latest from Knife The Symphony offers up high energy post HC songs
brimming with a mix of chunky to dissonant guitars, and a driving sense of
hooks that call some early 90s Dischord bands to mind. The vibe simmers at medium
fast tempo as they
examine personal struggle, alienation, and the like with a hint of how they
connect in the big picture woven in. While
the music is basically fueled by guitar, bass, and drums, there are horns and
strings on one song (no, it’s not a
ballad). On this disc KTS manage to
create an aural ride that’s listenable yet hard-edged, dissonant yet catchy. Not
necessarily for everyone but this is a surprisingly
good album that more people into punk and post HC should check out. (BOONE)
