THE ROGUE NATIONS - “Be Your Own Rogue Nation”
LP
I’d been meaning to really check this out for a while but it seemed to intermittently go through
backlog limbo before I finally got to it The debut full length from this band is full of rough yet often melodic punk
rock full of raw hooks and an enrgey so contagious you might get quarantined. The songs take on everything from the
plight of George Tabb and his illlness (believed to be related to the 9/11 attacks), sexism, militarism, the aftermath of
Hirricane Katrina vis a vis the FEMA trailers in New Orleans, religion, politics, and more. Musically, their rough fast
rules punk has a vintage feel and a breezy vibe that needs to be heard to be believed. While a far cry from the corporate
pop punk and pop passing as emo fed to us as punk, the Rogue Nation have made an album that carries on what punk should be
about. While you can find this through CD Baby et al, you can get it from the band with a note saying you’re doing
this for George Tabb and the proceeds will got to help his medical expenses. Thus, I’ve decided to list that for
the contact info. Great disc from a band that deserves more props. (BOONE)
