VIKING MOSES – “The Parts
That Showed” LP
I
got this album when I saw Viking Moses
live at Lemp back in the Spring of this year.
On this album Viking Moses offers up a collection of catchy, somewhat personal
art cum indie folk songs often driven by minimal instrumentation (a piano or a
lone guitar, to name two examples).
While the sparse arrangements seem like a shock at first, they perfectly
fit the personal approach Brendan takes to both the music and the subject matter
he sings about. There’s a sense of
longing here that permeates the record through these tales of life, longing,
and even loss. While widely considered a
freak folk artist, Viking Moses tends to stand out from that sub-genre creating
a blend of minimalist music and unexpected production to create something that
will stick with you when all is said and done.
