EXPLODE INTO COLORS – “Eyes Hands Mouth”/”Wooden
Ghost”
This has
been played a few times over the past couple months but somehow managed to
evade reviewing, so when I realized that I knew I had to take care of it. “Eyes
Hands Mouth” is striped down bass
fueled post indie rock with an infectious hook that’s as haunting at times as
it is catchy. “Wooden Ghost” is a
longer, more dub influenced track that adds an eerie, almost early death rock
feel to the bass and organ vibe. Both
songs stick in your head and dare you to try and get them out – to no avail, of
course. While this seven inch does offer
a sonic nod to the post punk bands of the late 70s, Explode Into Colors puts
their own spin on the songs and creates something that’s both somewhat
experimental and extremely listenable (not an easy feat to do). This is a must
have for anyone into dub, post
punk, or just wanting to stretch their musical boundaries and hear something
new. Wonder what their album will be
like. (BOONE)
