MIRAH – “(a)spera” LP
I know
this has been out for a while but I didn’t get around to checking it out until
a couple months back so it ends up being pushed back in terms of reviews until
now. On her latest, Mirah and company
create intimate indie rock cum that manages to be both layered sonically yet
emotionally direct. These personal songs
take a diverse approach that draws in everything from orchestral torch songs to
samba to stripped down post pop using everything from violins to organs to
fuzzed out guitar to sculpt these tales of love, loss, connection, and the
like. This is an intriguing, sometimes
hauntingly beautiful album that lures in those interested and snares them with
songs that are deceptively direct yet have some layers that demand repeat
listens. Glad I picked this up. (BOONE)
