THE TRANSGRESSIONS – “Waste My Time” CDEP
This was
another EP I checked out partially to pique my interest as much as anything
else; I’d never heard of the band so I was curious. The Transgressions play
a brand of three
chord melodic punk full of buzzsaw power chord guitars and relatively fast,
short songs that call to mind the spirit of ’89 pop punk as much as the summer
of 77. Fast, simple songs about getting
wasted, alienation, boredom, and the like are the band’s 40 ounces of malt
liquor. Admittedly they’re treading
fairly well known
sonic ground, however this band manages to carry on the spirit of their
influences without it sounding like the corporate pop punk flood from six to
seven years ago (if you don’t remember that trend, consider yourself
blessed). Simple, a little silly, but
direct and to the point, the Trangressions deal out melodic hook laden songs
that walk the thin line between pop punk and vintage 70s punk – and after less
than a year together actually pull off a cohesive sounding EP that a lot of
punk kids might probably dig. (BOONE)
