DEAD CAT LOUNGE – “Don’t Come Back”
CDEP
This disc came through our P.O. Box a
while back and while I was admittedly a little bit curious I didn’t get around
to really listening to this until very recently. Dead Cat Lounge play quick and
dirty hardcore
with a vibe that touches on vintage hard rock (though more Motorhead than
Sabbath). After a sample of the Howard
Bale rant from the 1976 movie Network, the band tears into songs that go
from an angry rants against conformity, society, and manipulation to a silly
(some would even say bordering on sexist) ode to the vagina of former first
lady Barbara Bush (yes, Dubya’s mom) to a cover of “Time Warp” to singing about
armageddon and back. Lyrically it can be
a bit juvenile at points though the music stays firmly within solid punk rock
territory. Dead Cat Lounge is one of
those bands that will probably piss someone off with their songs but may just
as likely get props from a lot of punk rock fans who aren’t always offended
that easily (hell, some of them seek it out).
I don’t know if this is their debut or not but I have a feeling they’ll
find their base pretty soon. (BOONE)
