HAR MAR
SUPERSTAR - "Dark Touches" LP
I know this has been
out for a few months
but I never seemed to be able to nab a copy until I picked one up at his show
at the Firebird recently. Once again Har
Mar Superstar offers up a collection of danceable songs that draw in elements
from mainstream pop to vintage funk and R&B, all delivered with the
trademark humor we’ve come to expect from him.
Along the way the songs take on sex, partying, clubbing, music and the
like with tons of metaphor and varying degrees of tongue in cheek at some
moments. There seems to be a more
vintage soul feel on some of the songs here but his take on mainstream dance
pop continues to put a uni que
spin on a genre that seems to be more generic by the moment. It might not be everyone’s
bottle of vodka
but Har Mar Superstar continues to move forward and take names with a record
that’s danceable, varied, and a hell of a lot of fun. (BOONE)
