MEAT PUPPETS -
"Sewn Together" LP
I didn't even know this was coming out
until I saw it at the merch area when I saw them live at Mojo’s a few months
back, so I picked it up. On their second album since reuniting with original
bassists Cris Kurtwood, the Meat Puppets offer up more of the type of acid
tinged country/folk rock that the trio has gained notoriety for over the past
few decades. These songs are a bit
introspective, somewhat personal at times, and delivered with lots of
arpeggiated guitar hooks, the occasional sitar, and harmonies that call to mind
late 60s folk rock. The result is music
that' can be catchy, a little surprising, but firing on most cylinders in a laid
back yet simmering way that longtime MP fans will definitely dig. This band has
been through a hell of a lot
over the years but this album proves that the Meat Puppets have no plans on
going away anytime soon. (BOONE)
