ROSE MELBERG -
"Homemade Ships" LP
I got this album around the Holidays and
had been wanting to really listen to it but issue deadlines et al got in the
way so it got pushed back to now.
Melberg's latest solo album is intimate personal indie meets folk music
delivered in a most intimate and honest manner.
Using (mostly) her acoustic guitar and some harmony vocals, these songs
aim for the heartstrings to create tales of love, loss, and carrying on. The result
has an authenticity here that
would've been betrayed by a lush, more elaborate production. Since her time with
the Sofites, Rose Melberg
has created music that takes the listener by surprise with a mix of simplicity
and heartfelt honesty, this album continues in this tradition. It's a far cry
from a lot of the singer songwriters
clogging up certain radio stations but for those willing to check it out, they
will find a damn good album. (BOONE)
