SUCH GOLD – “Stand Tall” EP
I know this has been out for a long while
but we fell into the paradox of doing a zine in the Internet age where backlog
and space dictates sometimes you can’t get to something for a while; thus we’re
reviewing it now. Such Gold’s debut EP
explodes upon punkland with a batch of melodic punk chantalongs that walk the
fine line between the hooks of modern pop punk and the loud fast aural
throwdowns of hardcore. What emerges
from this are up-tempo personal themed anthems built of a mix of power chord speed,
singalong (okay chant but you get the
idea) choruses, and tinges of metalesque guitar lead fills. Short, powerful, and
very influenced by
recent punk rock. This band isn’t
reinventing the wheel but readers who are interested in the more current punk
may find something here they’ll enjoy.
