THE DOLLYROTS – “California
Beach Boy”/”Dumb”
I
go this single when I saw the Dollyrots live at the Foxhole back in March and
finally got around to really listening to this.
“California Beach Boy” is a infectious piece of catchy rock n roll with
a gooey center about falling for someone you didn’t expect to. The flip
side (“Dumb”) mines both punk edge
and 60s AM pop hooks to sing about unrequited feelings for someone and the need
to move on with your life. Both songs
are uptempo raveups that almost physically pick you up and raise your energy
level just on the sonic power alone.
Their new album will be out by the time you read this (expect a review
shortly) but if you can’t wait this red vinyl 7” will definitely whet your appetite
and want more from The Dollyrots.
