LITTLE LUNGS
– “Living Hell” EP Picked
up this seven inch when I saw the band live at Café Berlin
back in March (see review for
more). Little Lungs’ debut is an
eclectic collection of poppy punk songs that combine melodic hooks with more
experimental and skronk elements. The
songs are to some degree personal observations that, added to music full of
interludes and the occasional free/skronk guitar lick finds a band that takes
their music to an area many pop punk bands would be unfamiliar with, growing
and evolving in the process. While there
are some twists and turns you don’t expect on first listen, there’s also a
catchiness here that’s almost infectious.
This band is tinkering with the subgenre and coming out unscathed, even
if that may not have been their intention.
This is a record that both punk and indie kids can find common ground
in. (BOONE)
