THE HANUKKAH JONES BAND – “Rodent Rage” CD

I’ve been meaning to review this disc for a while but circumstances both within and beyond my control kept me from getting to this until now.  The debut disc from The Hanukkah Jones Band is driving quirky post HC cum indie rock that’s a bit rough around the edges and played with a lot of heart.  A sonic blend of rough sounding guitar with both punk angst and the inevitable pop hook, these songs explore themes that range from nostalgia and loss to how movies don’t reflect real life, ultimately brewing up into a direct, straight to the heart sonic journey that gives nods to their influences while putting their own twist to it.  While the recording has a bit of a rough feel at times, there’s a hella bunch of potential here.  I hope a second album is in the work.  (BOONE)
