TED LEO AND
THE PHARMACISTS – “the Brutalist Bricks” LPI
picked this up a while back and always seem to keep going back to it so a
review is in order. On their latest
album Ted and the Pharmacists offer up another batch of ubercatchy rock n’ roll
delivered with the energy and intensity of the best punk rock. Full of razor sharpened
hooks, these songs
walk the fine line between the personal and political with mention of the 2008
election, racism, societal control, travel, friendship and collective action
amongst the sonic brew. The band’s
trademark foundation of powerful rhythms and ultra tasty guitar sounds in still
in full effect though acoustic guitars and piano appear on several songs,
resulting in one of 2010’s best album – even in the time since its
release. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
have overcame a lot in the last few years but have emerged stronger than ever
and this must have album is proof. Now
head on over and get it. (BOONE)
