THE
PLIMSOULS – “Live! Beg, Borrow, and
Steal. October 31, 1981” LPWhen
I first found out about this I was curious and hyped about what it would be
like. Eventually I was able to get a
copy and check it out for myself. This
album documents a Halloween 1981 live show from this seminal (and way too
underrated) rock band. Focusing mainly
on songs from their first album (which had recently came out at the time of the
show), the band’s dual guitar fired sound has a rawness and emotion that
highlights their R&B influences more than most of the power pop bands they
got lumped in with at the time. The
Plimsouls always excelled in raw, high-energy rock with an alchemy of jangle,
crunch, and melodies galore and this live show is a vibrant case in point. This
album is a must have for readers who dig
power pop or even people who just like a little well needed energy in their
rock n’ roll. (BOONE)
