THE CINEMATICS – “Silent Scream” download EP

      I’d been looking around online for something when I decided to check out some music and came across this.  The latest EP from this Scottish band is full of moody alternative tock that takes a nod from 80s new wave sonically.  The songs are full of melodic guitar, atmospheric synthesizers, and an ease with pop hooks amidst the seeming (but not necessarily) melancholy within.  Throw in several tracks that have a beat you can dance to without being dance music per se and you have an idea what to expect from this band.  Admittedly the five songs here have a specific crowd in mind but the Cinematics have managed to create music that doesn’t cater slavishly to the latest indie flavor of the month.  (BOONE)
