JERUSALEM
AND THE STARBASKTES – “Room 8”/”Swingin’ Vine”
I
got this from the band after they headlined the TTWN 100th Issue
shoe back in May and have wanted to review this for a while, finally getting to
it recently. “Room 8” is a folky melodic
song fueled by heavily reverbed guitar and a somewhat introspective vocal that
hooks you on first listen and won’t let go.
“Swingin’ Vine” is a noise leaning folk rock rave-up with a crisp beat,
lots of hooks, and a breeziness that both belies the sonic fraying while
complimenting it. JATSB has always taken
its folk indie cum art noise rock into directions that are both accessibly yet
seemingly coming from way out in left field and this 45 carries on with that
aural tradition. Once again Kim and
Jeremy prove how they’ve maintained being one of the best bands that Columbia, MO
has managed to produce. (BOONE)
