THE LEAFY GREENS – “Rock Science” download
album
I
was hoping to get around to reviewing this album sooner but everything that
went down from the past year caused it to go by the wayside until now. The debut recording from Columbia’s own The Leafy Greens is a
well-mannered, melodic blend of indie, modern rock and power pop based upon
midtempo hooks and a ton of vocal harmonies.
Drawing on both jangly arpeggios and power chord crunch, most of the
songs come across a bit bittersweet with a more languid feel than
expected. Several upbeat and harder
edged tracks appear near the end but overall these songs are introspective
personal statements on love, loss, and life more than anything else. The way the album is paced is a double edged
sword that, while showcasing the melodic and poppier nature of the band, also
seems to neuter the album’s impact slightly as a result. I would say that this is a band with
potential and wonder what their future recordings would be like but just as I
finished writing the review I learned the band had broken up back in November,
shortly after putting this album online.
Pop music fans amongst the readers may want to check this band out but a
lot of readers might not really dig this band all that much. (BOONE)
