JERUSALEM AND THE STARBASKETS – “Battle
of the Orchids” LP
We first became aware of
this a while back but circumstances got this pushed into the backlog pile until I came across it while seeking something else,
so we put it on. The latest from Jerusalem And The Starbaskets shows the duo bringing their folk and country influences
to the forefront in some places. Their layered wall of noise guitar sound is still abundant here but acoustic guitars
have a more prominent presence here and the songs occasionally have a more laid back feel. However, these personal tales
still come across with a rough edge that will come through when you least expect it, walking a fine line at times between
face peeling crunchy and airy, almost ethereal light. Jerusalem And The Starbaskets have always harnessed a cross breed
between 60s era folk, psychedelic rock, and pure noise abandon and this album crystallizes the ingredients into its most potent
sonic brew yet. (BOONE)
