BLACK MAMBO – “Ruby Come Back”/”Everybody Loves You
When You’re Dead.”
I’ve been curious about this band for a while but work
scenarios and a wide range of unexpected turns kept me from really hearing this
single until now. Black Mambo offer up
two songs of melodic rock with a vibe and attitude that draws almost equally
from punk as from soul. Both songs have
more hooks than a meat locker with tightly written melodies and a vibe that’s
both semi laid back and driving at a medium tempo. While I’d never heard of this Finnish band
before, there’s something about this band that piques my interest. Those seeking vinyl may have a difficult time
finding it, even online (it’s also available as a download) but this is a
single fans of 80s punk and early new wave might be interested in. Glad I finally got around to checking this
out. Need to hear more from this
band. (BOONE)
