ATOMIC GARDEN – “My Life Is
Shit So I Piss On Yours”/”98.1Mhz” download single
I admit, the (for lack of a better term) A-side’s title piqued
my curiosity and had me wondering what to expect from this band so I had to
check it out. I was shocked to find the
A side was a fairly melodic song with a bittersweet personal take over a
midtempo rave-up with clean/crunch guitar dynamics and a somewhat simple pop
hook tucked in neatly. “98.1Mhz” is a
more hard-edged tense rocker with a feel that hints at early emo though isn’t
necessarily trapped in said subgenre.
Both sides are built more on melody than ferocity with a feel that
actually subverts the expectations one would expect from the single’s “A-side”
and is surprisingly listenable. I know
the song title will turn off some people but for readers into indie’s noisier
and more punk leaning side, this single should hold some interest to them. (BOONE)
