THE DOLLYROTS/BOWLING FOR
SOUP - "The Dollyrots vs. Bowling for Soup" split EP
On this limited edition (on vinyl at least) single, each band
covers one of the other band's songs.
The Dollyrots take on "High School Never Ends" with a blend of
humor, edge, and their trademark knack for a hook. Bowling For Soup's version
of "Because
I'm Awesome" is slightly changed (Soupified, if you will) with an added
spoken word part and some small changes for effect. The digital version also includes
each band
doing an acoustic cover of a song from the other band, with BFS's version of
"Rollercoaster" revealing more of its pop side when unplugged. It's a friendly
collaboration between these
bands that shows them tackling the other's comfort zone but retaining their own
approach in the big picture. The seven
inch version is limited (hence, reviewing the download EP with the bonus
acoustic tracks) though a few copies are available from each band's
website. While it may not change
everyone's mind on these bands, fans who don't have this EP would be wise to nab
it; even if the vinyl sells out, the download is worth it. (BOONE)
