I’ve been meaning to get around to this for a little
while now. Unfortunately, I’ve been distracted by a number of things in
my personal life and work and hadn’t been able to do so until a snow day from the paying job gave me the time recently. The latest from Jet Lag Gemini is a collection of fairly energetic power pop/rock
songs driven by tasty overdriven guitar leads and hooks that refuse to let up. One
part punk energy, one part gooey songcraft, their songs are easy to relate to with lyrics that stay on things most people
face in their personal lives. However, while this may sound a little cliché the
band also embraces the long dormant art of the guitar solo and uses it to take many of the songs to another level in the process. This is catchy and melodic music with a slight edge.
Jet Lag Gemini creates an album out of powerpop’s left field and manages to keep the subgenre fresh and current. I have to say this was a pleasant surprise.
