THE HANUKKAH JONES BAND – “Turn Your Head and Scoff”
CD
This came our way a little
while back but I hadn’t really been able to get to it until now. The latest
from the Hanukkah Jones Band continues
the path of melodic indie rock meets punk that blends personal issues with
sociopolitical commentary within the mix.
Songs about a relationship falling apart with Star Wars prequels in the
background meet with songs about dying and the struggle to carry on; all set to
songs that sometimes walked the line between classic rock sensibilities and
indie/alt hooks. The latest incarnation
of HJB is helped with a lightly slicker production that keeps the songs moving
along. This band isn’t everyone’s bottle
of vodka, but there’s something here for listeners who enjoy a bit of thought
along with their hooks. (BOONE)
