REFUSE THE CONFORMITY - "Please Say A Command" download EP

I admit when I came across this that part of what had me wondering about them was the band name, so I took a chance.  On their debut EP Refuse the Conformity dish out modern flavored pop punk full of mega-saturated guitars and clear as a bell vocals.  Songwise, these guys stay rooted in teen angst territory pointing their lyrical guns at assholes, conformists, schools (both in terms of authority figures and fellow students/inmates) and the like.  While it’s a perennial lyrical path, practically a chestnut even, the slightly juvenile bent here sometimes comes across as more silly than anything actually rebellious (think Blink 182 not D.O.A.)  On the plus side, this band is young and there's a spark here in Refuse the Conformity that could find them taking their sound and attitude in a number of directions once they get past wearing their roots on their guitar straps.  What happens with this is anyone's guess (though the band seems to be either broken up/in the midst of massive lineup changes at the moment).  Will be curious to see what goes down.  (BOONE)
