SHOOTER JENNINGS - “Outlaw You” download single.
This had been out for a while but
I was reluctant to cover it, assuming to wait for the rest of the album. However, once I learned this would be just a single,
I had to comment. “Outlaw You” find Shooter taking a slightly southern rock sonic path full of melodic guitar
and organ to tackle how the country music establishment has diluted the term and made outlaw country meaningless (especially
focusing on what his dad went through in contrast). It’s a rare ballad with biting lyrics that slit the pop country
types open and find them to be empty hats in the process. Admittedly, this won’t be every reader’s 40oz
of beer but for those into country or southern rock who are pissed about how far removed pop country and its marketing (the
“new outlaw” shtick) has gone from “three chords and the truth” will definitely want to check the
song out. Sadly, it’s only available as a download so be on the lookout. (BOONE)
