PURLING HISS - “Lounge Lizards” EP
I’d heard a little bit about Purling Hiss
before I picked this up but still didn’t know what to expect. Their latest EP goes four on the floor with full
on fuzzed out rock that exists somewhere between lo-fi, punk, and pure pop. Full of feedback and power chords, each
song manages to walk a fine line between pure noise and pop hooks - and actually manages to synthesize the two. There
is a primal vibe to the six songs here that manages to sidestep clichés yet seem fairly familiar to fans of this music. Purling
Hiss’ slabs of distortorock won’t appeal to the shallow or the trendy but listeners who like a little marshmallow with the hard and heavy should have some interest in this. (BOONE)
