CORROSION OF CONFORMITY - LP
Learning
that this was going to be out was something that piqued my curiosity so when I saw vinyl was available when the band played
St. Louis last summer I grabbed it. The latest from Corrosion of Conformity finds the band at a somewhat unique sonic
crossroads where they mine all the touchstones of their three decade long career. Ranging from doom metal slow riffage
to hardcore punk short/fast/loud aggression, the trio tears through a collection full of rhythms harnessed into sonic cudgels
with an unrelenting heaviness while hard as nails guitars tears your face off in this mix of songs that tackle subjects from
the people who use and drain energy from others (“Psychic Vampire”) to the cost of war (“Your Tomorrow”)
to unrest against the powers that be (“The Leeches”) and onward. The band has said this album was going
to span the scope of everything they’ve done musically and they succeed at that. While fans of one particular
era of the band might not like some of the songs on here (fans of the Pepper era might not be into the hardcore punk leaning
stuff and vice versa) there is a power here that showcases just why C.O.C. has managed to build a legacy in both punk and
metal over the years. It’s a heavy ride that can go from extremes but always manages to gel and reveal how it
meshes as a whole overall. If you like metal, punk, and how they may crossover you’ll want to get this. (BOONE)
