I've been meaning to get to this for a while but time and space constraints get this pushed back into the backlog.  The latest full length from Xiu Xiu harnesses a blend of electronic beats and organic acoustic and electric guitars to create a collection of songs where lush textures can collide into moments of dissonance.  This creates an aural bed for Jamie and company to take you through songs about such topics as struggling, disease, abortion, death, and love among other things.  Xiu Xiu's blend of avant garde noise and danceable rock can be alluring, sometimes unsettling, but always has a depth within it that compels further listens to fully appreciate.  This band has never been one that aims for mass popularity but those who are willing to listen will find much to enjoy.  (BOONE)
