PETER BUCK- LP
To say this
slipped under our radar would be an understatement but we were curious to come
across a copy. On his first solo album,
Buck and a handful of collaborators unleash some 60s flavored garage rock with
some healthy nods to blues music and psychedelia. From bittersweet overdriven and fuzzed out
guitars to semi delicate aural head trips full of loops, organ and beyond, this
group of originals (and a couple covers) make a home with footing in vintage
blues and art rock without coming across like a museum piece in the process. The sonic depth here is staggering with
layers being revealed that suggest more than you think. Released only on vinyl, this album has been
one of late 2012’s great sleeper albums that surprised even the former REM
guitarist himself [it has gotten a second pressing as a result]. Peter Buck is one of those albums most of you
need to get in your collection if at all possible. (BOONE)
