CITIZEN
FISH - "Dancing on Spikes" CDEP
This was another
release that slipped through the radar that piqued our attention when we
finally found out about it and had to check it out. The latest from Citizen Fish carries on the
high energy ska punk full of heavy meets skank guitar and horn fueled melodic
accents. This time around Dick, Jasper,
Phil, Silas, and Alex tackle songs about unemployment, religious conflicts, war
(and fear of), the need to document throughout, and life in Britain before
things inevitably crash. Slightly
introspective, the band maintains their trademark anger throughout the
chantable choruses and tight song hooks that manage to permeate the six songs
on this disc. While I wish this disc was
longer, the tracks here do show Citizen Fish carrying on the feel from their
previous album Goods and taking it forward for a riotous effect. This band has existed apart from a lot of the
ska trends of the past 20 years but living in it but not of it suits this band
well. Check it out (BOONE)
