DARK BLUE DARK GREEN - LP
Picked this up
when I saw the band play at Mojo's a while back but finally got around to really
listening to this recently. The debut
full length from Dark Blue Dark Green finds the duo mining an experimental
sonic journey fueled by often ominous bass lines where minimal guitars and
blaring blasts of saxophone are likely to bubble up from the surface. Part experimental free form, part angry rock
dissonance; what arises from Jack and Ben's sonic alchemy filters in parts of
jazz, underground rock, and pure noise into an emotional musical ride that
hints at all these bases without fully being any of them. Dark Blue Dark Green are one of Columbia's
more boundary pushing acts and they manage to harness their near performance
art fervor into a cohesive listenable album.
Hard to believe these guys started out as a pop-punk band - and I
remember that era. (BOONE)
