Possibly
one of music’s more interesting stories of the last few years is the resurrection of Zolar X from obscure 70s glam rock
band with one posthumous album to underground rock’s interplanetary visitors with said album reissued and a return to
touring and recording with two new albums out. The first of these releases chronicles
a “lost years” of sorts compiling several older songs along with unreleased material and a live version of “Hyper Space
Drive.” Musically, the material carries on the
Zolar X hard driving edge of glam rock sound but has a more new wave vibe at some moments (understandable as several songs
were Ygarr solo demos from the early 80s). While their alien background may suggest
this band is merely a gimmick, their music continues to prove otherwise with songs that still hold up sonically and topically
(they claim their past is our future). Yes it was 27 years in the making but
this disc maintains a nice bridge between Zolar X’s past and future. (BOONE)
