MARNIE STERN - "The Chronicles of Marnia" LP
News of this
album came slightly under the radar for me in the midst of work, fighting a
lingering cold, et al but my curiosity was piqued so I wanted to hear
more. Marnie Stern's fourth album shows
Stern and company taking a slight shift of sonic gears. The songs emerge slightly more straight ahead
rock with her tapping harnessing even more into tight hooks and melodic twists
throughout these personal leaning songs.
Part classic rock through an indie lens, part experimental sonic
journey, these songs emerge with both musical and lyrical layers that mix the
joy, angst, and worry into something alluring and transcendent at times. While I know this won't be everyone's cup of
sake, Marnie Stern manages to mix song craft and sonic risk and make an
interesting album in the process.
