THE DOLLYROTS
–
LP
I’ve been meaning to review this for a
while but time and space constraints pushed it back until now (the perils of
print DIY zinedom). The latest from The
Dollyrots is a sonic that uses their high energy cocktail of punk rock energy
meets oldies radio gooey hooks as a jumping board for an audio journey that
ventures through
modern rock and pop along the way. Built
on often fueled on hyperdrive guitars and gooey hooks, the band walks the thin
line between rock solid songcraft and modern production sheen throughout the
nearly 40 minutes of this album. While
such a thin line could overpower a band, The Dollyrots managed to pull it off
without sacrificing too much to the pop side due to their knack for continuing
what pure pop can be when done right.
While not everyone’s large pina colada falavored slurpee, I do recommend
this album as an example of how rock can meet pop and manage to make it through
with its heart and soul intact. (BOONE)
