ARVID NOE - “Islington” EP
I picked this up when they played St. Louis a while back
(had to miss the Columbia show due to work) but wasn’t really able to check it out until now. On their latest,
Arvid Noe throw down batches of frantic surreal punk rock infused with elements of noise and a sense of anything goes that
seems chaotic but unveils a tightness with each listen. Blending borderline frantic guitar with ominous bass/synth and
a high energy approach, these songs are part cathartic, part sonic confrontation. It’s a strange journey but there’s
something here that caught my attention and the songs are breezy enough to make you curious about the twists and turns.
Unfortunately, this came out just around the time of their farewell tour so it appears this EP will be their epitaph.
Good thing for them they ended on a fairly high note. (BOONE)
